: Stop the Heartbreak: Demand MTA Safety NOW to Save Our Children from Subway Surfing Tragedies – My Child’s Death Cannot Be in Vain!

Petition Body:

A week ago, my heart was ripped apart forever. My precious child—full of dreams, laughter, and endless love—tragically died while subway surfing in New York City. This devastating story dominated American news, but behind the headlines is our shattered family. My child met a girl on Instagram, fell under the deadly spell of social media dangers, and in one horrifying moment, they both plummeted to their deaths. As I hold my child’s photo and weep through endless nights, I ask: How many more parents must bury their babies because of negligence?

Subway surfing isn’t just a “trend”—it’s a silent killer stealing our children’s futures. For years, NYC has watched kids climb onto speeding trains at night, unsupervised and unprotected, while exhausted parents sleep, trusting the system with their most precious gifts. MTA workers turn a cold shoulder. Transit patrols look the other way. Where were you when my child needed you? Dozens of young lives lost—each one a broken family, a mother’s scream in the dark—yet nothing changes. Enough! My tears demand action!

Look to Europe and China: there, train roofs are sealed tight—no child can climb, no tragedy can strike. Simple barriers, not miracles! Why does NYC let our babies die when solutions exist? We have the money, the technology—why not the will? Cameras on roofs to spot danger. Sensors to scream warnings to drivers. Real patrols who care enough to stop a child mid-climb. If MTA can’t protect our kids, step aside—let those who will!

This is my cry as a grieving mother/father: End the negligence that murdered my child! There are so many reforms that the MTA adopt, but for now

We demand the MTA adopt barrier structures, cameras, or sensors on EVERY train! The most effective way to save lives is to detect or prevent people from climbing on the top of trains in the first place.

We have examples to learn from! London, Moscow, and Hong Kong have all implemented design and policing changes that have greatly reduced subway surfing. Even New York City has had small successes of its own! In a pilot program, officials installed rubber barriers between train cars that appeared to be effective. Why not expand this program?

Sign this petition with your breaking heart. Parents, imagine it’s YOUR child. Officials, feel our pain and ACT. Together, we’ll flood streets with awareness, storm MTA boardrooms, and watch laws change before our eyes. My child’s death will spark a revolution—no more tears, no more graves!

Sign NOW. For my child. For YOURS. Because every signature is a hug that saves a life.

Target: MTA Board, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, NY Governor Kathy Hochul, U.S. Department of Transportation
