Demand Redesign NE 7th and Russell

The Issue

Please scale down the proposed development at NE 7th and Russell to respect the neighborhood

Please join us in urging Paradigm Properties to revise their plans to build an eight-story apartment building at the corner of NE 7th and Russell. The proposed development is far out of proportion with anything in the surrounding area. It would reduce light and privacy for neighbors, lead to parking, traffic, and safety issues on nearby streets, and detract from the character and livability of the neighborhood. We ask that Paradigm Properties respect the quality of life in the surrounding community and re-scale their project to be in accordance with the city's proposed 2015 re-zoning of that location.

Responded
Greetings to everyone who has responded to the Petition and expressed concern about our plans to replace the abandoned gas station at Northeast 7th and Russell Street------------ We have been listening to your concerns. In fact, ever since our meeting with the Eliot Neighborhood Association on Jul 21, my design team and I have been working hard on new plans for the site. Over the last 6 weeks, I have spent time communicating with folks from the neighborhood. We have arrived at some decisions which take into account neighborhood feedback to the plans we proposed earlier. I plan to attend next Tuesday's meeting of the Eliot Neighborhood Association to discuss our progress and to share some news about the new direction we are heading. By the way, I would like for you to know that the image displayed on the petition is not one we ever we intended to pursue. At the July 21 meeting, our architect distributed materials showing the eight story design we then wanted to build and another design that was allowed by the zoning currently in place but that we did not want to pursue. This was done in an effort to illustrate what was possible. It is unclear to me why the plan we never intended to pursue was portrayed to you as an image of the building we wanted to construct, but there is nothing to be gained by focusing on that. It would be naive to expect any one plan for this site to be universally embraced. That just doesn't happen in the real world. But sometimes everyone can agree that one course of action is better than another. I look forward to next Tuesday's meeting.
