Help Protect The Trees in Hertfordshire

Help Protect The Trees in Hertfordshire
The Issue
Local residents of Hemel Hempstead have recently learnt that a mature, established Beech Tree, that is meant to be protected by a Tree Protection Order issued by Dacorum Council, has been intentionally vandalised.
According to a report carried out by a tree professional, the TPO Beech Tree appears to have had a number of holes drilled into its trunk and to smell of diesel. Local residents believe the TPO Beech tree has been intentionally vandalised in order to kill it. A planning application has recently been submitted to Dacorum Council to cut the vandalised TPO Beech tree down.
We are petitioning for Dacorum Council to actively do more to protect its natural assets and the environment. Trees not only benefit humans by producing oxygen, they are also homes to a myriad of wildlife including many species of birds, squirrels and bats.
If Dacorum Council allows the protected TPO Beech tree to be cut down because it has been vandalised, we believe that they are sending out a message to all landowners, builders, planners and contractors that Tree Protection Orders don't really matter - do what you want to the trees, just don't get caught!
We, as a community, should be committed to protecting the small pockets of green space we have left. If you believe in preserving and protecting the trees, the wildlife and the environment in Hertfordshire PLEASE sign our petition.
Please do not assume that just because a tree has a Tree Protection Order on it that it is safe and untouchable - we are learning the hard way!
