Make Our Roundabout Safe Again
The Issue
At the very entrance into the town centre of Bude, Cornwall is a small roundabout which has 3 exits
1. into town centre.
2. out towards the a39 and industrial estate ( this crossing is situated next to Budes biggest park which is 4 ft. away from the roundabout ).
3. towards a large council car park with a tourist information centre ( which has the correct/ safe paving for safe crossing).
This roundabout was moved slightly in the previous year to accommodate the replacement of a bridge leading number 3. listed above.
Since this change multiple issues have arouse and a huge concern has been made by both myself and the local community. there is a paper petition with over 400 signatures on and rising, and an article/ meeting/ signature with Scott Mann but we need more !!!
This issue came to my attention when I witnessed a young child dangerously risked his life by running across the road right in front of a car luckily he made it to the other side safely but he was shocked/ scared he just kept running along the pavement and didn't look back whilst the driver slammed on there horn and drove off. I decided that this was a serious issue that needs to be fixed before a similar scenario happens but with a more darker out come. I fear for the safety of myself and others...
The issue, this roundabout has crossing points for pedestrians on all 3. parts of the roundabout and was fine before the changes were made by highways. there was drop down curbs on the pavement in-line with centre islands safe for pedestrians to stop in the middle and check to proceed crossing safely with a wheel chair/ pram, now the middle islands have no space or lower curb for any kind of person/ pram /wheel chair to stop and wait for a safe passage and the blind mans curbs have not been moved to accommodate the position of the new islands in places they are 10ft away ( and that happens to be where the crossing for the park is) ! considering these are marked to help assist the blind and lead to nothing but the other side without a central reservation is barmey to say the least.
This petition is to assist in the correction of the roundabout as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of harm/ death to any users of this area of Bude.
