Cork deserves a proper Luas!

Cork deserves a proper Luas!
The Issue
Cork is a rapidly growing City, and is expected to be the fastest growing City in Ireland in the next 20 years.
But for Cork to reach its full potential it needs a 21st Century public transport system. It is really welcome that we are finally seeing progress towards a Cork Luas, with it going to public consultation.
Is féidir le Corcaigh a bheith mar an Chathair is mó fás le linn na bliainta le teacht, ach caithfear an infrastructúr a bheith ann
However, from speaking to constituents, there is a need for greater ambition.
First of all, it is too slow - we need it to be beginning within this decade.
Secondly, a huge opportunity is being missed by not taking in areas with heavy traffic and population growth, areas such as Carrigaline, Douglas/Rochestown, and key employers such as Apple in Holyhill, and acroos the Northside- it is clear there is a need for a line running North-South.
This could take in areas of major population growth such as Carrigaline and Douglas (we need a Carriga-Luas and a Doug-Luas!), through the City Centre, and serving communities in the North side of the City such as Knocknaheeny (Apple), Ballyvolane Mayfield and Glanmire.
The Demands of this petition are
- A Luas line to travel South-North/North-South
- Such a Luas line would serve communities such as Carrigaline, Douglas, and surrounding areas on the Southside, and communities such as Knocknaheeny, Ballyvolane, Mayfield and Glanmire on the Northside
- An Airport Spur off that route
Let us begin this conversation and planning now, so that we don't see this go in to decades without modern 21st Century Public Transport for Cork
Caithfimid a bheith uaillmhianach do Corcaigh. We need to be ambitious for Cork!
We are urging people to
