Recognize that a majority of college students do NOT believe that clothing is justification for sexual assault.

Recognize that a majority of college students do NOT believe that clothing is justification for sexual assault.
The Issue
Point Park University's United Student Government responded to a request that they punish one of their representatives (Shanah Hupp) for making rape culture comments on social media by saying that they believe that "85% of students agree with Shanah's view (that a female who dresses provocatively is asking for rape and that men cannot control sexual urges) They just do not publicly say anything." Shanah shared a photo that was captioned "Before you ask every man in the world to change their fundamental physiology to suit your irresponsible behavior, maybe you should focus on something you CAN change, like your slutty outfit! God's peace!" and she added the comment "exactly" when she shared it.
This is not only inaccurate, but it is an extreme abuse of power. The first sign of an abusive relationship (whether it be a romantic or political relationship) is isolating the victim. Point Park's USG president attempted to isolate survivors of sexual assault by making them feel that "85% of students" believe that these survivors brought their attack upon themselves.
These unfounded comments coming from both the president of USG and Shanah come at a pivotal point in history where colleges across the United States are taking initiatives to educate students about sexual crimes and decrease campus rape. These comments not only affect those who have survived sexual assault, but they also undermine a university's efforts to decrease sexual assault.
I am asking that people sign this petition for two reasons:
1. Prove that most people do NOT believe that clothing is a justification for sexual crimes.
2. Show survivors of sexual assault that they are not alone and that others will help fight against sexual assualt with them.
Thank you.
