This petition calls for a referendum, the purpose of which is to introduce a more open, democratic and transparent system of governance at Cheshire East Council.

Recent events at Cheshire East Council include:

• The suspension of senior officers at taxpayers expense;
• Ongoing police investigations into officer and councillor conduct;
• Residents and councillors denied access to investigation findings;
• An endemic culture of bullying;

The existing Cabinet system has created the conditions under which these issues have been allowed to thrive. It is time for residents to reclaim their council.
