I am creating this petition as our local council (Selwyn District Council) in the Canterbury region has recently removed a halfpipe at the newly completed Rosemerryn Pump track and Skatepark. The Pumptrack, Skatepark and Wooden Halfpipe were completed in mid Decemeber 2022 and has already seen an abundance of kids and adults alike using it from the local area, and beyond. 

Recently, the Selwyn council received several noise complaints regarding the Halfpipe. The complaints have been in relation to a drumming or thumping noise that happens when people land on the half pipe.
The council determined the half pipe too noisy, based on noise levels associated with those for a residential zone. The noise assessment found the noise levels were compliant with daytime use, however, did not meet those levels acceptable for the after-hours use that was occurring. 

I saw two young kids at this park one morning crying that it was fenced off as the removal process started. It got to me and I thought there are most likely a huge number of other kids upset seeing this. So I put a call out on our Lincoln Community page to see if anything was being done to stop the removal or improve it. However, it more or less seemed that there was a huge number of people in the neighbourhood who were not even aware of the halfpipe being removed for good. Those who knew it was going were mainly upset and some were angry. No-one in the neighbourhood got a Proposal, nor was there any consultation or communication by the council. It’s seems their mindset was to just get it removed, with complete disregard for the opinions of the locals and those people who use it. This is, quite frankly, poor form by our council.  

There are some very disappointed kids and some very upset adults - why couldnt the hollow halfpipe be filled stop the apparent thudding? Why not build a concreted one??? 
This has  played on my heartstrings over the last few days so thought I’d start this petition to try and re-engage council to find a better solution, and at best, A NEW HALFPIPE!  

All in all, its about being able to enjoy just being a bloody kid! We've all been there!
