Stop Cell Tower in Arcadia Residential Zones

The Issue

We Say NO to 53-foot tall Verizon Cell Phone Tower

A Verizon cell phone tower will be constructed at 1881 S. First Avenue, The Church of the Transfiguration parking lot. This is less than 50 feet away from Arcadia Christian School and 200 feet away from Arcadia Episcopal Preschool.

SETS A BAD PRECEDENT:

Verizon’s wireless waiver, if approved, would set a dangerous precedent to allow all the other wireless carriers to cell towers in our residential zones.

The Cell Tower Can Grow:  The cell tower would be allowed to grow 20 feet in height and 20 feet. Also other wireless carriers will be encouraged to co-locate on this cell tower.

LOWERS PROPERTY VALUES AND AESTHETICS:

We have a beautiful neighborhood. A cell phone tower—even and especially one that will be made to look like a FAKE TREE—will mar the beauty of the neighborhood and decrease its desirability for residents and homebuyers alike.

According to a 2005 study published in the Appraisal Journal, “the results of the sales analysis show prices of properties were reduced by around 21% after a CPBS [cell phone tower] was built in the neighborhood.”

LACK OF STRUCTURAL AND SEISMIC SAFETY:

There are no seismic safety standards for cell towers in regards to earthquakes.

Fall Zone: The cell tower fall zone is in an area where there are pre-school and elementary school children present, since it is very close to the two schools.

Cell Tower Fires: It is not an uncommon occurrence for a cell tower to catch fire or to collapse.

Wind Rating:  In LA County cell towers are required to be rated for 85 mph hour winds. In 2011 we had Century winds over 100 mph hours.

CELL TOWERS ARE A NUISANCE:

The ugly cell tower will create visual blight that will stigmatize the nearby homes.  The constant noise from the air conditioning units for the cell tower as well as the diesel back up generator (BUG) will be bothersome to nearby homes.  There is routine maintenance to the diesel BUG and when it is routinely turned on it will produce toxic exhaust near the pre-school and homes.  Also the maintenance trucks can come any hour of the day or night and disturb the nearby homes and classrooms.

Please join us in telling the Church of the Transfiguration and our elected officials that we do NOT want a commercial cell tower near two schools and our residential neighborhoods.
