Save our trees around Sherwood Library!

The Issue

We, the undersigned, refute the assertion that the felling of healthy and well established trees as part of the Sherwood Library/Spondon St. redevelopments is necessary. Instead, we call on Hockley Developments to adopt and implement sensitive engineering solutions to enable the long-term retention of them.

So far, only 3 out of 44 trees in the redevelopment area have been marked 'safe', and an impressive group of mature wild flowering cherries are under threat. They represent our cultural heritage and are irreplaceable.

These trees contribute significantly to our local climate regulation, filtration of atmospheric pollutants, sustainable urban drainage, biodiversity, ecology: health, wellbeing and amenity; providing beauty and enriching our lives.

We urge Hockley Developments to provide assurance that any development on this site will incorporate measures to maintain and preserve all our healthy trees.
