Community refuses to give up hope after local homeless mans dog impounded

Community refuses to give up hope after local homeless mans dog impounded

The issue

As reported through Canberra’s RiotAct (Lottie Twyford), a Canberra homeless man has been left traumatised and unable to sleep after his dog was impounded by ACT’s Domestic Animal Services (DAS).

Pauly New and his dog, Bruiser, are a popular local fixture at Erindale Shopping Centre. Our community stands by Pauly and Bruiser.  Those who have seen this wonderful pair would recognise their kind and gentle nature, even under the most trying circumstances. Bruiser plays an incredibly important support role for Pauly, who has faced numerous challenges in his life. Let’s not add extra burden to him.

Pauly and Bruiser are closer than anyone else in the world. As the RiotAct article explained, since he got Bruiser six-and-a-half years ago, they haven’t spent a night apart from one another.

In an interview with Lottie Twyford, Pauly said “I was suicidal and he brought me out of that horrible period”

“Being without him has been really hard and it’s bringing back a lot of the dark thoughts from back then.”

In the same article, Pauly’s sister, Melissa McCormack, says recent events have left her brother completely traumatised and she alleges Bruiser was deliberately provoked into attacking a passer-by on Monday, 26 July. This has been reconfirmed by others who saw the incident.

Please sign this petition to show Pauly and Bruiser that they have our full support. As everyone will attest to, Bruiser is a gentle boy. He is a cherished part of our community, but for now the time is ticking for him.
