We, the undersigned, are hereby requesting that you rescind Forest Order 08-11-07-20-071 on the grounds that it is excessive and overreaching.

We understand the temporary closure of certain recreational facilities and campgrounds in accordance with current guidance regarding social gathering limits from the White House, the CDC, and the Governor of North Carolina related to COVID-19. However, the aforementioned Forest Order restricts the use of other roads, trails, and amenities in a manner inconsistent with and in excess of those stated guidelines. Further, the Order is in direct contradiction with the Governor's guidance regarding Outdoor Activity as stated in EO121 Section 3(iii). 

Camping, trail use, road use (by bicycle or vehicle), and other ORV activity is not in violation of any of the recommended or statutory guidelines imposed during this outbreak, so long as the participating individuals remain in a group less than 10 and practice proper social distancing. The overreach of your office to include such restrictions is unnecessary and excessive.

Further, current restrictions by the aforementioned parties are in place through the end of April. Your restrictions through mid-August are egregious.

Therefore, we are requesting the Order be immediately rescinded. Trail use, forest road use, and dispersed camping must not be restricted.
