Remove as President of USA
Remove as President of USA
The Issue
As many of us in the community already know, on April 28th the USA twitter account began a series of tweets claiming ownership of the design and its 3-color scheme. These tweets targeted a variety of groups with a cease and desist as well as a demand for compensation, including the Human Rights Campaign, Target, and bi+ activist and small business entrepeneur, . As the bisexual community voiced its hurt, concern, and outrage over the assertion of the claim that USA, and USA alone, owned, and are thus entitled to use and profit from the design, the President of USA, , tweeting from the official USA accounts began a campaign of inflammatory and divisive statements against those speaking out before making the decision to delete those groups, accounts and the statements in question entirely. Rather than recanting the statements, tweeting from their personal social media, chose to double-down on claim to the flag and colors, disparaging those who disagreed and making dubious claims that the dissent was somehow racially motivated.
Based on the statements made by and the subsequent comments provided by former members of the board regarding running of the organization and conduct toward its members, as well as the choice to publicly display the private information of community members who contacted and USA via email; we the members of the bisexual+ community hereby ask for the USA Board of Directors to remove as President effective immediately. We feel that during this time of crisis it is vital that we have leadership that unifies and raises our community up, instead of punching down at already struggling and marginalized community creators. We ask that the Board consider carefully the wisdom in continuing to allow to lead us when such a severe and damaging lack of judgement has been so publicly displayed.
We thank for her contributions in previous years to the community as President and we ask that step down with grace and dignity to avoid further damage to the community.
