Support Public Servants Like Siegfred Mison of the Bureau of Immigration
The Issue
The last State of the Nation of Philippine president Benigno S. Aquino III, he cited two government agencies which needed prompt attention---the Bureau of Customs and the Bureau of Immigration. There is a wide perception of graft and corruption in these bureaus of government.
Eight months later, and charges of graft and corruption against the Bureau of Immigration disappeared. Fixers who usually are seen within the vicinity of the bureau's offices in Intramuros just faded into oblivion.
Fugitives from justice are caught, even those who evaded the law for decades already. Immigration laws were enforced to the tee. Aliens who violated the rights of their hosts, Filipinos, were charged appropriately.
Foreigners who work illegally were read their rights, and the bureau assisted them in processing their documents. Those who stayed in the country because of their love with the Filipinos were given opportunities to prolong their stay here. Yet, those who wantonly violated the laws of the Philippines were charged, heard their petitions and were meted the proper punishment according to the law.
Siegfred Mison is an officer of the law and an honest public servant. Ask people who already met this guy and they will tell you that he has a compassionate heart for his fellow Filipinos as well as foreigners. He tries to enforce the law equally and without consideration as to race, creed, belief or what-have-you.
Ask members of the Philippine media especially those who already met and know him and they will tell you that no shred of corruption can be discerned in his heart.
Atty. Siegfred Mison is serious in his task and knows his important role in nation-building. He goes around introducing himself as a Public Servant. And, he is.
However, there are forces at work trying to bring him down. Why?
These are corrupt people whose nefarious activities ceased when Mison assumed the position as Commissioner of the bureau. These people have monies to spare. These people lost considerable income which they derive from fooling foreigners and for allowing criminals to enter our country and protect fugitives from the claws of justice.
These people are actively campaigning against Mison because monies they get from human trafficking and illegal recruitment dried up the minute the New Bureau Commissioner assumed his post.
These people even accuse Atty. Mison of violating the rights of women and children, something which is far from the truth. Mison is a Public Servant, someone conscious of the Law and its compassion to the down trodded.
Mr. President, do not lose your trust and confidence with Atty. Siegfred Mison of the Bureau of Immigration. He is one of the reasons why people continually support your administration. Atty. Mison continues to hold dear the principle of creating a just and humane society. He is highly conscious of his role as a Citizen trying very hard to tread the true and straight path towards Change.
Fellow Filipinos, instead of believing the lies and deceit being peddled by corrupt people, even using legitimate platforms such as www.change.org in their attempt to legitimize their illicit desire to regain their corrupt livelihood, please support Atty. Siegfred Mison and the rest of the patriotic elements of the Bureau of Immigration in trying to change things for the better.
It is time for us to stand tall and proud because there are now Public Servants the likes of Atty. Mison whose faith in the law remains unshakable and firmly believes that change is possible in our generation.
Mabuhay ka, Commissioner Siegfred Mison!
