World MS Day 2011 Campaign for Access to Appropriate Work
World MS Day 2011 Campaign for Access to Appropriate Work
The Issue
Work is a fundamental aspect of our lives. It provides not only a salary, but a sense of self worth, an opportunity to lead an independent life and to be a fully integrated member of society.
Millions of people around the world do not have access to appropriate work. People with disabilities and/or chronic diseases are often marginalised by society and their rights to access work are not recognized by employers or safeguarded by law in their country.
In December 2006 the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was adopted by the United Nations' General Assembly. It recognised the rights of disabled people including the right to work on an “equal basis with others”, providing a platform to change the lives of millions of disabled people, and their families for the better.
Join us to ask that leaders around the world unite with employers and others to remove the barriers preventing people with chronic fluctuating diseases like MS from accessing appropriate work.
