Won't you amend the constitution?

Moorhead, MN, United States
Created February 3, 2010

The Issue

Surely, you're aware that we must return to the original intent of the Constitution.  The Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United vs. F.E.C. threatens our democracy by granting corporations unfettered influence in our political process. Corporations are not people, and they must not be treated as such by the nation's courts.  Before 1886, corporations were tightly regulated by states and had no rights under the U.S. Constitution. In that year, corporations argued that they should be recognized as legal persons, and although the Supreme Court did not decide the matter, the concept entered American jurisprudence. Since then, corporations have persuaded the court that businesses should have more and more rights of U.S. citizens.  Congress must pass a constitutional amendment to restrict corporate rights in order to protect our democracy, now.
