Winnipeg City Council: Rescind the decision to raise transit fares by $0.20 in June, 2012
Winnipeg City Council: Rescind the decision to raise transit fares by $0.20 in June, 2012
The Issue
Whereas, the Standing Policy Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works suggested a $0.05 increase to transit fares in 2012
And whereas, this recommendation was amended to include another $0.20 increase to transit fares without any input from Winnipeg Transit, or the public:
• I, as a citizen of Winnipeg, request the City of Winnipeg immediately rescind the decision to raise transit fares by an additional $0.20 in June, 2012
• I would like the City of Winnipeg to consider alternative methods for paying for the Rapid Transit line, recognizing that it will benefit the city as a whole and should not be paid for by transit users
• I would like to be ensured that in the future, the City of Winnipeg will allow for public input before making decisions that will drastically impact the transit system many citizens rely on
