This petition is not meant to be viewed as an attack on Chick-fil-A. Rather, it is instead a defense of Wichita State’s values and dedication to its students, staff, and faculty. WSU’s policies dictate an interest in fostering a healthy environment of inclusiveness. Chick-fil-A’s Dan Cathy does not support Wichita State’s policies, and to continue doing business with a company that undermines the spirit of WSU is to do a disservice to us all.

According to WSU's non-discrimination policy, "Wichita State University does not discriminate in its programs and activities on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, political affiliation, status as a veteran, genetic information or disability." However, Chick-Fil-A does. This restaurant does not stand for the in inclusive environment the students, staff, and faculty of WSU enjoy and protect.

WSU's Dining Services' mission statement says, "Our mission is to create and offer services that contribute to a more pleasant way of life for people wherever they come together. This applies not only to our clients and customers, but also to our employees and the communities we serve. While our strategic imperatives focus our efforts in meeting our mission, our values direct our behavior as we strive to improve the quality of daily life." How can this be achieved with a business the contributes to homophobic organizations? Chick-Fil-A does not stand for Wichita State's values and must go.

Please stand up for an inclusive Wichita State University and ask that Chick-Fil-A be removed.
