"Every week, Out4Immigration targets a member of the House AND the Senate who we think understands and supports our issues but hasn't signed on to co-sponsor
the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) yet.
This week we will be writing to:
Representative Corrine Brown [FL-3]
Senator Roland Burris [IL]
We are also increasing our efforts by emailing/faxing letters to staffers of this week's Congress people. We have revised the letter so that it can be universally emailed, faxed and/or snail mailed to staffers as well as to the Representative and Senator.
The addresses and a draft letter are listed below.
Representative Corrine Brown

Please remember, that even though letter writing might seem old-fashioned in the era of emails and social media,
it is still the BEST way to reach many members of Congress. Very few accept emails from people outside their district –
so grab an envelope and a stamp, and get started!"

Please, Sing on as a Co-Sponsor of the United American Families Act (UAFA)
Dear Senator and Representative
Dear Senator Burris and Congresswoman Brown,
I am writing to you to ask you to please sign on as a co-sponsor of theUniting American Families Act (UAFA; HR 1024; S 424) sponsored in the House by Rep. Jerrold Nadler and the Senate by Sen. Patrick Leahy.
The historic election of a black man as President of the United States underscored Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream speech on equality. Yet discrimination of another sort is shamefully alive and well in America, and the gay and lesbian community deals with it every day. You have the ability to bring King’s dream to fruition.
I am part of a group called Out4Immigration. I know people who are directly affected by the current unfair immigration policies in this country that deny gay and lesbian Americans in same-sex bi-national relationships the right to sponsor their permanent partner to live with them in the United States.
As you may be aware, these Americans in loving and committed relationships are often forced to make heartbreaking decisions to maintain their relationship. More often than not, these include having to leave the United States in order to be with the person they love. These American citizens are forced to give up careers, leave behind aging parents and young adult children who rely on them and leave a community which benefits from their ongoing and active participation.
The Uniting American Families Act simply seeks to provide gay and lesbian U.S. citizens and permanent residents the right to sponsor their partners for immigration. It includes the same process and penalties as applied in heterosexual sponsorship applications. By co-sponsoring the UAFA you are showing your dedication to equality and the belief that no American should be forced to choose between their country and the person they love.
The majority of your fellow members of the Congressional Black Caucus have already signed on to co-sponsor the UAFA. I would ask you to please add your name to this list today.
If justice is truly blind, then sexual orientation should not be a consideration for immigration to America. As your fellow American, I certainly hope you value equality as much as I do and will co-sponsor this long overdue bill, and also support the UAFA in any discussions concerning Comprehensive Immigration Reform
Thank you for your time on this important matter.
Respectfully,
[Your name]
