We Must Impose Tariffs on Chinese Goods
We Must Impose Tariffs on Chinese Goods
The Issue
The People’s Republic of China has a history, reaching all the way back to its foundation, of human rights abuses. And now this so called communist nation is prolonging the genocide in Darfur by continuing to buy oil from the Sudanese regime, and to sell them weapons. These are then used to slaughter people in the western region of the country, known as Darfur. The Chinese have used their seat on the UN Security Council to press for some limited peace measures, but the genocide continues; and it continues to use their money and weapons. The United States has no business encouraging this destructive behavior, as well as many other human rights violations by the People’s Republic of China, by continuing to import huge numbers of their luxury items at a cheap price; and just as low of a price can be found by relocating those facilities to other countries which require lower wages than the US, such as India (with a workforce numbering in the hundreds of millions). Therefore, we insist that the US impose tariffs on all Chinese made goods, equivalent to the amount of money it would take to pay an American to manufacture the same product. In addition, not one more cent should be borrowed from China by our government. It is our hope that this will encourage our corporations to stop buying from China, and encourage China to abstain from any other gross violations of human rights, in Darfur and elsewhere.
