This is a petition to be directed to public officials such as municipal fire and police departments and to town counsels and selectmen, state legislators, attorney-ge nerals, and governors in the states of the United States. I would start anywhere. I have already voiced strong admonitions to local safety officials and to editorial pages.

There is a correct, civil and safe method to enter/exit buildings. All folks over 60 know that (although I have observed 60 year olds who must have been problem children going the wrong way). Most public buildings have two doors. One is for entering and one is for exiting. It is always on the right. (Unless you happen to be in Britain) I have observed that 90+ % of Americans do the opposite. I know there are some rerasons.

One, Americans are not taught in school how to be civil. Two, property managers are lazy and do not open both doors or even, in convenience stores, one door is blocked by merchandise. How soon we forget! Many people died at the Cocanut Grove in Boston and at the The Station in Providence for this very same criminal behavior. More than that, Americans appear to be fools, unable to navigate amongst themselves, with less brain power than that of a lemming. I have never seen such disrespectful, utterly irresponsible behavior anywhere in the world.

If Americans want to be liked and respected, get some lessons on deportment. Remember that part of your grade card?
