Voice for the Unheard, Hold Oil companies responsible
The Issue
We came from California to Nigeria to build homes in Villages destroyed by, "Oil situations". These BIG Oil companies bleeding the earth of it's resources, with profits we can only imagine, are not doing anything for the villages of people that they are destroying. Is clean running water to much to ask? Some roads? Lights throughout the villages? How about some sanitation? An hour boat ride to Okerenekoko, through the Warri River,Oil is plainly seen in the water. It's time for change, for people who's voices are not heard.
It seems far fetched that 2 "Oyibo's" from California can make a difference in Africa. To be here and to see what we see, and to hear what we hear, is to know that something has to happen. The same water that the children swim in, and people fish in, is the same water used as a public restroom. Oil fills the water way. Pipes are being plunged into the earth for Oil, but what about for the people? Is it too much to ask for wells of clean water for these same people that have to stand by and watch their lands being destroyed? Running water and sanitation is only the beginning.
We love our families. We have always taught our children to live the lives that they dream of living. Why should it be any different for anyone else? It shouldn't. As we look into the eyes of everyone we've met here, we look into the eyes of our brothers and our sisters, the eyes of our children, the eyes of everyone we love. Basic solutions to overwhelming issues. It's time to hold the Oil companies responsible for a better way of life to those lives that they are destroying.
