Having attended both Appalachia and Powell Valley High Schools, and being a graduate of Powell Valley High School, I can honestly say these schools are very different in classes, students, faculty and staff, and many other aspects. Combining two very different things may result in many problems. Also, Appalachia and Powell Valley have been rivals in all sports since before I was born. Appalachia's school is precious to many people. Taking away the high school would be taking away a part of peoples lives. And sending Appalachia's students to Powell Valley would take away from the student's of Powell Valley. There are also places the a school bus doesn't run. In all of these places, Parents take their children to school. With consolidation, parents may not be able to afford gas money with the unpredictable price of gas to go into the next town. It is very important to the students of these schools (as I imagine the other students who are the victims of school consolidation across the county). These schools should remain open because of the support, memories, and lives these schools have touched. I, and all of these people, would like to ask you to throw out consolidation because it would hurt many people emotionally and economically.
