Veterans Tax Relief Act

Dear President Obama,Representatives and Members of Congress

During the Bush Administration much ineffectual rhetoric circulated about "supporting the veterans," yet not enough has been done. Congress and President Bush, while escalating spending for the ill-planned war, persisted in cutting benefits for veterans. Especially in today&rsquo;s economy, it is time for action.</p>
<p>Therefore, I respectfully submit the following proposal for a bill.</p>
<p>The Veterans&rsquo; Tax Relief Act</p>
<p>Be it known that in consideration of service rendered, surviving veterans of any war, conflict or policing action conducted while in the services of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy) and those members of the U. S. Coast Guard deployed in combat zones and experiencing combat action shall be subject to a FLAT RATE TAX OF SEVEN PERCENT (7%) prior to personal and business deductions. Included are veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War/Conflict, the Gulf War and the Iraq War and policing actions such as Panama (Operation Just Cause) and Grenada<a></a> (Operation Urgent Fury).</p>
<p>Further, any of the above members who in the course of combat action:</p>
<p>Received a meritorious award for valor
Received&nbsp;a Purple Heart
Was captured and served time as a Prisoner or War</p>
<p>Shall fall into a TAX-FREE STATUS for the duration of U. S. Citizenship or term of life.</p>
<p>The above considerations shall apply to income, capital gains and inheritance taxes but shall exclude winnings in lotteries.</p>
<p>I appeal for significant support of veterans by enacting this provision as a gesture of supporting the troops, acknowledging their service, and providing long term economic relief to those who have sacrificed so much.
