Dear friends, ALDF reports: "On October 12, Suffolk County [New York] lawmakers voted unanimously to create the nation’s first animal abuser registry, designed to keep convicted abusers away from animals. The new law will require adults living in Suffolk County (population over 1.5 million) who have been convicted of animal abuse crimes to register on an online registry for five years following their convictions."
Please sign below to request that a similar registry be established in your state. For more information, please visit:

Please Create an Animal Abuser Registry in Our State
Honorable Governor and Members of Congress,
As you may know, legislators in Suffolk County, New York recently voted unanimously to establish the nation's first public registry of convicted animal abusers. Criminals who victimize animals will be required to register online and maintain their registrations for five years following conviction. In addition, an accompanying resolution, scheduled for a vote next month, would prohibit animal shelters and those who sell animals to adopt or sell to offenders listed on the registry.
This landmark legislation is to be lauded and, more importantly, emulated. Given the undeniable link between animal abuse and interpersonal crimes, a public registry of animal victimizers would provide protection for both animals and humans alike.
I would like to see a similar registry established here in our state. I also support legislation to bar registry offenders from adopting or buying animals. I respectfully urge you to introduce a bill modeled after Suffolk County's progressive and highly successful measure.

Sincerely,
