In December 2009, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that global warming endangers public health and welfare, acknowledging the massive body of scientific research that shows the clear threat of climate change. This finding allows the agency to regulate heat-trapping emissions under the Clean Air Act, helping to avoid the most dangerous consequences of global warming and jumpstart a vibrant clean energy economy. 

But now, Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) has proposed an amendment to an unrelated, fast-moving bill that would undermine the Clean Air Act by preventing the EPA from acting on global warming pollution. This amendment inappropriately injects Congress into scientific decisions better left to the experts at the EPA.

Please urge your senators to oppose this amendment and let the EPA fulfill its mandate to protect human health and the environment by evaluating and responding to climate science.
