Urge President Obama to invest in clean energy and clean communities
Urge President Obama to invest in clean energy and clean communities -- not dirty tar sands oil

Under current law, surface owners over federal oil and gas have no legal right to ensure responsible development on their property. They have little influence over the placement of roads, pipelines and power lines, or the disposal of wastewater, or to obtain fair compensation for damages.
Oil refineries produce toxic pollution and climate changing emissions. We all recognize that we need to invest in clean energy. Yet refineries across the US are going the opposite way by expanding their polluting facilities, with a number of them planning to use one of the dirtiest crude oils available - tar sands from Canada.
Communities across the U.S. living closest to refineries want the promise of clean, sustainable energy to reach them. Instead, tar sands crude moves in the wrong direction by --
increasing pollution in already overburdened refinery communities, often low income and people of color, with greater risks of childhood asthma, cancer, and neurological disordersgenerating at least 3 times the greenhouse gases and 2.5 the smog creating pollution compared to conventional oilrequiring about 3 barrels of fresh water to extract just 1 barrel of fuelthreatening one of the planet's largest forest ecosystems, the Boreal Forest.
Join with EARTHWORKS' No Dirty Energy campaign and sign a petition to President Obama, sponsored by the communities most at risk. Help move us towards a clean energy future.
