Update: The Tiger Summit has been moved to November 2010. Obama still has not committed to sending a representative.
There are more tigers in captivity in the U.S. than there are remaining in the wild around the world.
This year is the Year of the Tiger on the Chinese calendar, and only 3,200 tigers remain in the wild. These amazing animals are illegally hunted across Asia for their meat, skins and bones. If this doesn't stop, 2010 may be the last Year of the Tiger.
The world's first Tiger Summit will be held this September in St. Petersburg, Russia, hosted by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and World Bank President Robert Zoellick.
Although there are no wild tigers in the U.S., extinction impacts all of us. Urge President Obama to help tigers by:
- Sending a high level representative to the Tiger Summit;
- Increasing U.S. funding and technical support for on-the-ground tiger conservation efforts; and
- Create stronger regulations for tigers in captivity in the U.S.
Support from the U.S. can help change the future for tigers.

Support Tiger Conservation: Send U.S. Representation to Tiger Summit
Dear President Obama,
The world's first Tiger Summit will be held this fall in St. Petersburg, Russia, hosted by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and World Bank President Robert Zoellick, and it's critical to the survival of tigers that the U.S. is at the table.
This year is the Year of the Tiger on the Chinese calendar, and only 3,200 tigers remain in the wild. These amazing animals are illegally hunted across Asia for their meat, skins and bones. If this doesn't stop, 2010 may be the last Year of the Tiger.
Although we have no wild tigers in the U.S., extinction impacts all of us. There are more tigers in captivity in the U.S. than there are remaining in the wild around the world.
I urge you to send a high level representative to the Tiger Summit. I also urge you to support on-the-ground tiger conservation efforts with increased funding and technical support, and to protect animals in captivity with stronger regulations.
Your support can mean the difference between whether there's a future for tigers or not.
Thank you.
