On March 19, 2011, the United States along with France and the United Kingdom, launched attacks on Libyan defensive infrastructure and ground forces.

While the country is at war with Libya, Libyan students and foreign nationals in the United States are still subject to removal to the warzone. Visitors and students are especially vulnerable as they have to abide by visa regulations and return to Libya. Between a popular uprising and escalated military actions against the Gaddafi regime, it is probably not safe for Libyans to return to the country at this time.

Please join us in urging the Obama administration to grant a deferral of enforced departure for all Libyan nationals, and temporary protected status to stop the removal of any Libyan nationals to Libya until it is safe to do so.

Deferred Enforced Departure and TPS for Libya

Greetings,

On March 19, 2011, in accordance with UNSC Resolution 1973 and in response to Libyan refusal to halt attacks on rebels within Libya, the United States along with France and the United Kingdom began attacks on Libyan defensive infrastructure and ground forces.

While the country is at war with Libya, Libyan students and foreign nationals in the United States are still subject to removal to the warzone. Visitors and students are especially vulnerable as they have to abide by visa regulations and return to Libya.

I join hundreds of other people in urging the Obama administration to grant a deferral of enforced departure for all Libyan nationals, and temporary protected status to stop the removal of any Libyan nationals to Libya until it is safe to do so.

Our allies such as Canada and India have recently stopped the deportations of people to Libya and I urge you to should join them in this consideration.

I look forward to a statement on this issue. Thank you.
