Allentown, Pennsylvania is set to consider a measure that would allow same-sex partners of LGBT municipal employees to receive medical benefits. If it approves the measure, Allentown would become the first city in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley to offer partner benefits, and would follow in the footsteps of nearby Philadelphia which also offers benefits.
The City Council President, Michael D'Amore, is behind the bill, and says that the measure "is about fairness and equality." Send a message to Allentown's City Council and Mayor Ed Pawlowski that you agree, and would like to see Allentown take this bold step for LGBT equality.
Please expand benefits to the same-sex partners of gay municipal employees
Dear Allentown City Council and Mayor Pawlowski,
On December 15, a measure was introduced in Allentown that would allow the city to expand medical benefits to the same-sex partners of gay municipal employees. I urge you to approve this measure, and move Allentown in the direction of equality.
If Allentown approves this measure, it would become the largest city in the Lehigh Valley to offer such benefits. It would also be a chance for Allentown to compete with nearby Philadelphia for the best possible employees, as Philadelphia currently does offer this benefit for gay city employees.
As one of Pennsylvania's largest cities, you also have the opportunity to take a bold stand for equal rights, at a time where local governments around the state are increasingly making moves in this direction.
Please consider passing this measure, and showing all municipal employees that their families are equal and valid, regardless of sexual orientation.
Thank you for your time.
