Currently, there is a statue commemorating veterans of World War I near the Texas Memorial Stadium, but there is little evidence of the profound impact that veterans since 9/11 have contributed. Apolonio Hernandez III, an Iraq War veteran of the US Marine Corps, has suggested that new memorial statue of a modern soldier should stand along side to represent veterans from the most recent wars. 

This is a project that is needed to commemorate the lives lost as well as show our gratitidue to veterans in our community.  The men and women across Texas who have risked their lives for American freedom deserve to be recognized. It's time for the University of Texas to show its appreciation for those who have and will continue to fight for our country.

As a community, it is important for university administration, Texas politicians, and city officials to be aware of the passion and desire that we have for this project. 

By signing, we can remind families of the fallen that we are still grateful for all the sacrifices made. Show all Modern Warriors that our priorities are in ORDER. We must place American heroes at our highest levels of respect every DAY, not just on US Patriotic Holidays. 

Remind those in charge that millions of families face the struggle each day, and that as a community we are ready to unite to support them. We want--no, we NEED--to honor these heroes, so sign and send the petition now.
