Mandate Direct Action to Cultural Campus Resource Centers in Rape & Sexual Assault Prevention

The Issue

For far too long, cultural resource centers on campus (Makuu, La Casa, PAACH, LGBT Center) have not been fully equipped with the proper backing and materials necessary on their end to incorporate rape and sexual assault prevention awareness within their quarters. This issue is not just one that should be discussed and advocated at only a few facilities, but all possible ones that engage students. The number of reported and unreported sexual assault cases are rising, leaving many of our underrepresented students victimized or not fully aware of the proper procedures to protect themselves.

Therefore, this petition demand a change in current standards, for there currently seems to be no streamline accordance other than contacting outside resources.

This petition is calling for the following items to be put into actions from the University of Pennsylvania to such cultural resources centers:

1.   ENACT administrative driven programming that addresses rape and sexual assault prevention.

2.    EMPHASIZE the need for tangible and visible public dialogue and content that informs members of the community about rape and sexual assault prevention.

3.   FACILITATE student driven groups within the umbrella of these cultural centers (Latino Coalition, UMOJA, APSC, and Lambda Alliance) to have frequent organizational advocacy pertaining to rape and sexual assault prevention.

4.    INCORPORATE supplemental collaboration within other campus wide groups and resources to help inform, educated, and serve students impacted by rape and sexual assault.

5.   AUTHORIZE consensual sex awareness booklets/materials with contraceptives that are featured in all in-door monitored locations.

With these items put in action, the University of Pennsylvania will have truly shown a very visible and pro-active step in helping the on-going fight to combat rape culture campus wide.
