Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius herself recently stated that the Plan B birth control pill is scientifically safe and effective. The only reason she cites for vetoing the FDA's approval is "the switch from prescription to over-the-counter for this product requires that we have enough evidence to show that those who use this medicine can understand the label and use the product appropriately. I do not believe that Teva's application met that standard."

This is clearly a political objective getting in the way of FDA policy which is by law required to be based off of pure science and nothing else. Making Plan B an over-the-counter drug could go a long towards reducing the number of teen pregnancies, as it is the small window of time available to take the drug is not compatible with the bureaucratic nightmare of getting a prescription. Sign this petition and help the government change their minds when it comes to this important piece of progressive policy!
