United Airlines keep your promises to retirees
The Issue
What happened to workers rights? Companies can make whatever promises they want and then not keep them. Years ago we were told when we still were active employees that our pension fund was a separate company and could not be part of any problems United had. what happened to all that money we paid in? You didn't tell us that every month you had to contribute the money or there would be no more pension, So now we are broke because my pension with United is gone after more than 30 years of service. Just ask any United retiree.
The bankruptcy took away our pensions and now you trying to take away what little we have left, our pass travel benefits. We were promised that when we retired we would get unlimited free travel anywhere United flies. Some of that already changed we do not get free pass travel anymore. Now United wants to take away what we still do have. We now have unlimited passes with boarding priority given to retirees based on date of hire. They want to put us after all current employees no matter how long they have worked for the company.
Here is what I understand that they want to do, no more unlimited BP6 priority boarding, we go behind all other active employees, our family goes at a lower priority yet if they travel without the retiree. They want to give just a few trip passes and give us other passes at 80% of actual ticket price. All the promises you made for years just go away? Us retirees who worked for United when we took huge pay cuts and bought the company. We were told we would be rich, But the only people who got rich were the executives who put the company into bankruptcy.
What good are bargaining and workers rights if companies like United can just change the rules when ever they want. We want to keep what little we have left for benefits. Retirees should at least keep their priority boarding rights biased on date of hire and unlimited almost free travel as they do now. It is the only Benefit we have left.
