Stop the Proposed 81% Fee Increase

Amara Miller

Created November 21, 2011

The Issue

The University of California Regents are proposing annual tuition increases of 8% to 16% over the next four years, which would bring tuition fees up to as high as $22,068 for the 2015-16 school year. Tuition currently costs $12,192, which is more than two times what it cost in 2005. Without taking into account the proposed changes, UC tuition has more than tripled over the past decade.

Sign this petition and say NO to the proposed 81% fee increases at UC schools!

These tuition increases are causing what should be, and is legally, a public university to become increasingly unaffordable to students who have to go into deeper and deeper debt just to educate themselves. In addition, it is making a college education increasingly inaccessible to minority groups who have to face mounting barriers to receive a higher education in the state of California.

It is time to tell the UC Regents NO to fee hikes! Tuition at the University of California system should be affordable to all youth.
