The University of California is contractually obligated to provide health benefits to post-doctoral scholars.  Unfortunately, UC chose to violate the union contract and deny some workers – many of them new immigrants to this country – the health coverage they are entitled to, causing them go without coverage or purchase expensive plans on the open market.  UC gave post-doctoral scholars misleading information and effectively took thousands of dollars out of their pockets – and is still refusing to reimburse those to whom they did not provide appropriate health benefits. It's past time for UC to play fair and reimburse these workers!
