To no person in history do the American people owe a greater debt of gratitude than George Washington.

Whenever his country called, he served; as a Soldier in the French and Indian War, Commander of the Continental Army, President of the Constitutional Convention, and our first President. He did every job he was asked to do and then quietely went home.

In 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act which shifted the celebration of George Washington's Birthday to the third Monday in February. It also led to the name of Washington's Birthday being referred to generically as, "President's Day." This holiday has become a day for shopping and no longer a day to honor our most important Founder.

It is our duty to remember, appreciate, and learn from George Washington who must forever remain, "first in our hearts."

Congressman Frank Wolf has introduced a Bill (H.R. 2268) to the US House of Representatives to have George Washington's actual birthday of February 22 recognized as a national holiday. Let's support his effort!
