Release a BIOS patch enabling SATA-III for R835 laptops
The Issue
The Intel HM65 Chipset that the R835 laptop uses is fully able to sustain SATA-III transfer speeds of up to 6Gbit/s. However, Toshiba has artifically limited the chipset's capabilities, giving the laptop a maximum transfer rate of 3Gbit/s (SATA-II). This fact is intentionally hidden from the consumer.
The R835 spec sheet clearly lists the Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset, while cleverly not mentioning anywhere that SATA-III has been disabled. Many customers who have installed Solid State Drives capable of SATA-III have been very upset to find that the R835 is unable to utilize their drive's full capabilities.
The Intel HM65 Chipset comes with certain features (ie. SATA-III capabilities) that Toshiba did not state were removed prior to to releasing this laptop. Thus, Toshiba needs to reinstate these features or face an angry mob of customers and negative PR.
