Reverse approval for Hancock's coal export terminal at Abbot Point

Reverse approval for Hancock's coal export terminal at Abbot Point
The issue
Last Thursday Federal Environment minister Tony Burke quietly approved a huge new coal export terminal at Abbot Point in the Great Barrier Reef, but new findings show that the adjacent Caley Valley wetland is home to a federally threatened species.
Greenpeace revealed yesterday that this assessment didn't take into account biodiversity surveys, obtained from the Queensland Government under Right to information laws, that show that the Caley Valley wetlands are internationally significant habitat for shorebirds, and support a nationally significant population of a Federally threatened species the Australian Painted Snipe.
Both the Queensland Government and Hancock coal knew about the surveys and they should have been part of the federal government assessment.
Tony Burke must stop the Caley Valley Cover-up and reverse his approval of Hancock's coal export terminal at Abbot Point.
