"I started the petition on Jan 21st 2012 when I found out about vigilantism by a morning show in Pakistan. To spread the word and build support, I posted the petition with videos of the show on Facebook groups and walls of friends which evolved into a support group initiating mass SMS and mass phone calls to media channel's chairperson to influence media channel as an add on to petition. My petition was covered in Pakistani, Indian and International media including BBC, the Associated Press and the New York Times and we found out the show was taken off the air on January 27th 2012.

The Facebook supporters have now evolved into a Media Monitoring Group called Citizens For Free And Responsible Media, to keep watching the Pakistani media for transgressions of privacy and ethics.

Why This Is Important

We the undersigned would like to express our dismay at a morning show broadcast on Samaa TV, Subah Saverey Maya kay Sath, that exhibited highly intrusive, invasive and potentially irresponsible behavior on the part of the host - a kind of vigilantism no different than the Lal Masjid variety. The episode of Jan 17, 2012 in particular was highly disturbing in which the host Maya Khan went after couples in parks.

As viewers and citizens, we not only protest this kind of moral policing, but also point out that this kind of programming is likely to also lead to legal action for violation of dignity of man under the Constitution - which legal action we as signatories will support, propagate and promote.

We hope that Samaa TV will end this irresponsible programming immediately, and look forward to your unconditional public appology.
