We are appalled and outraged at the involuntary manslaughter charges leveled at Oscar Carillo by Mr. Sanchez -- the Chief of Police. This man was the victim of a robbery and is being railroaded to appease the outcry of the Black community over the death of a young Black man who was shot by the police, not Oscar Carillo. Oscar Carillo has been branded as an "illegal immigrant" to invalidate his right not to be robbed. What should be focused on is police protocol, not this man's reputation. The Pasadena Police department has pursued these charges against Carillo, sending the message to the Latino community that if you are an undocumented Latino and report a crime, you will not be protected by the law. This creates silent victims of further hate crimes. It is the responsibility of the Pasadena Police Department to take full responsibility for the shooting instead of vilifying and persecuting an innocent man.
