Please Deny the CVS appeal for red metal signs.

CVS has turned the quaint, waterfront community of Tiburon upside down.

First, they steamrolled into town, cut down all the Native California trees in front of their building and, after exposing the 18,000 sq ft edifice, lobbied hard for up to 126 sq ft of glowing red, halo-lit signage! The people of Tiburon and Belvedere fought back hard; over 465 local residents, via petition and Homeowners Associations, let the DRB know loud and clear that they did not want any red signs for CVS.

After two public hearings, the DRB granted CVS a main entry sign and for the first time ever, a sign facing Beach Rd, each 30 sq ft, with the proviso the signs would be made out of white wood to fit the community aesthetic.

As soon as CVS got approval for the size and location of their signs, they returned with an appeal to the Town Council to change the white wood signs to red metal signs--the exact thing the people of the community spent two months protesting!

The Tiburon Town Council must deny the CVS appeal and overturn the Beach Rd sign approval in order to preserve and maintain the small town, village-like character of the community as the General Plan requires, and prevent our Downtown area from turning into an ugly strip mall.

Tell CVS "No Red Signs, Means NO Red Signs" and Throw out Beach Rd Sign!

Dear Members of the Tiburon Town Council,

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Tiburon Town Council entitled:
Tell CVS "No Red Signs, Means NO Red Signs" and Throw out Beach Rd Sign!

Please deny the CVS sign permit appeal which requests changing the approved white wood signs to red aluminum signs.

For the past two months, CVS has lobbied hard for up to 126 sq ft of glowing red, halo-lit signage for the Tiburon store. The people of Tiburon and Belvedere have worked tirelessly to protect the village-like character of their community by protesting to the DBR: over 465 local residents, via petition, Homeowners Associations, letters and meeting attendance let the DRB know loud and clear that they did not want any red signs for CVS.

After two public hearings, the DRB granted CVS a main entry sign and, for the first time ever, a Beach Rd sign, both with gooseneck lighting, each 30 sq ft, (which is twice the sign area prior tenant Delano IGA had) with the proviso that all signs would have white wood letters on a gray wood backer panel, to fit the community aesthetic.

Once CVS got approval for the size and location of their signs from the DRB, they returned with an appeal to the Town Council asking to change the white wood signs to red metal signs--the exact thing the people of the community spent two months successfully protesting!

At the same DRB meeting on 1/19/12, revised CVS sign plans, including new Options V and VI, were distributed to the DRB members at the meeting. None of the public was given an opportunity to review or object to those distributed plans which included a 31 sq ft sign for Beach Rd! Given the overwhelming community interest in the CVS signage, this was unfair.

Unaware that there was a revision, we relied on the staff report of the Planning Manager which on page 5 said "No window signage or signage facing Beach Rd". If I had seen those final revised plans, I would have objected to the Beach Rd sign. This repetitive and purposeless sign sets a very bad precedent for future tenants in our community.

We respectfully request that The Tiburon Town Council deny the CVS appeal for red metal signs and revoke or overturn the Beach Rd sign approval in order to maintain the small town, village-like character of our community as described in the Tiburon General Plan.

Thank you for your anticipated support in this matter.

Sincerely,

[Your name]
