Botox anti-wrinkle treatments use a volatile chemical, botulinum toxin, which paralyses facial muscles. Every single batch of botox is tested on animals. Join a growing list of celebrities and animal welfare organizations in exposing the ugly truth about botox.
In a recent undercover investigation at a U.K. laboratory, anti-animal testing organization, British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection, found that as many as 74,000 mice per year (just at this one lab) were subjected to "one of the cruellest and most controversial animal tests."
Here's how it goes: mice are injected in the abdomen with the botulinum toxin and then the scientists sit back and watch them die. They watch as the toxin causes paralysis to take over the mice until the subjects are gasping for breath and eventually suffocate to death. The scientists aren't interested in providing pain relief, or any kind of relief, for the mice; they're just interested in the mounting body count over the three or four day span of the experiment, at the end of which, any remaining mice were killed. The cost of vanity is high.
Tell the Home Office to stop licensing cruel, unnecessary animal suffering.

Stop Animal Testing for Botox
Greetings,
I recently read on Change.org about the cruel testing performed on mice for every batch of botulinum toxin, used in botox anti-wrinkle treatments. in the LD50 and pyrogenicity tests, mice are injected with the paralyzing toxin and observed as they die agonizing deaths, becoming increasingly paralyzed until they eventually suffocate. There are humane test tube alternatives to measure the safety of the botulinum toxin.
I urge you to comply with your legal obligation to enforce the 3 R's - Replacement, Reduction and Refinement - to stop unnecessary animal cruelty by:
- no longer licensing the archaic LD50 and pyrogenicity tests for botulinum toxin
- withdrawing the license of cruel laboratories like Wickham Laboratories to carry out animal experiments
The cruelty behind the botulinum toxin is unconscionable, especially for products like botox treatments, which are commonly used for cosmetic purposes. Please keep the U.K. at the forefront of progress in humane toxicity testing. Thank you.
