This is no ordinary petition. It is designed to help deliver a large number of personalized comments to the Montana legislature. When the petition closes, you will receive (by e-mail) an information packet that will help you compose and send an e-mail to the Montana authorities. This takes more time than a simple signature, but it can be MUCH more effective.  You will receive a list of e-mail addresses, formatted so that you can conveniently copy it into the "To" field of your e-mail; a list of references containing useful statistics; and a letter template to help you if you're unsure of what to say.

Wolves face intense opposition from Montanans who are convinced that they will destroy prey populations and ruin the ranching industry. In this year's hunting season alone, 166 wolves lost their lives. Now the pressure is on from anti-wolf factions in Montana to increase the number killed next year. They are targeting the state legislature with their complaints, pressing them to pass laws that would extend the wolf season, increase the number of hunting tags per person, allow the use of calls, and more. Montana politicians, by and large, are very unsympathetic to wolves, and we NEED all the help we can get in the form of polite, thoughtful, personal comments. Petitions and form letters just don't cut it in the face of this kind of opposition.
