There are many fake meterologists out there with no formal training in meterology or atmospheric sciences as well as privately owned weather companies issuing and cancelling weather statements such as "Torando Warnings", "Tornado Watches", "Severe Thunderstrom Warnings" and "Severe Thunderstorm Watches".  These fradulant meterolgosits and private companies are using the same names as official products used by the National Weather Service.

Using the names of these same products only serves to cause confusion for the general public.  There have been several recent incidents of public alert systems being sounded due to a "tornado warning" from privately owned companies as well as cancelations of offical warnings by private companies and fradulant meterologists.  While there is no direct connection to deaths, injury damage or economic harm continued issuances and cancelations of warning products that are issued by the National Weather Service only serves to put the public and property in extreme danger.

We request that the terms "Tornado Warnings", "Tornado Watch", "Severe Thunderstrom Warning", "Hurricane Warning", "Hurricane Watch", "Severe Thunderstorm Watch", "Tropical Storm Warning", "Tropical Storm Watch", "Blizzard Warning", "Blizzard Watch" and other titles of urgent weather statements used by the National Weather Service be restricted to use by the National Weather Service with the exception of further distributing an official statement issued by a National Weather Service office.  We request that using the above statements in a warning product not issued by the National Weather Service be made a federal offense.
