Don't Let Farms Hide Cruelty: Veto the "Ag-Gag" Bill

Don't Let Farms Hide Cruelty: Veto the "Ag-Gag" Bill

The Issue

We deserve to know how our food is produced--if it is safe and if
animals have been treated humanely. - This legislation is not necessary:
Trespass, theft of intellectual property and slander are already
prohibited. - There could be unintended consequences to this bill, which
could also suppress the exposure of child abuse, drug use, assault, theft,
violations of workers' rights and other illegal or unethical activity. -
Critical documentation of crimes could be lost, making prosecutions
impossible or much more difficult. - We need additional transparency, not
less, regarding the production of our food supply. Documentation by
whistleblowers exposes animal abuse, environmental dangers, and serious
health problems with our food supply. - Whistleblowers do a public
service and should be applauded, not jailed. - There are numerous existing
state and federal animal protection statutes that were enacted due to the
public outcry caused by undercover video documenting horrific cruelty.

Rather than putting so much effort into covering up abuse, the farm
community should support efforts to end and prevent animal suffering. This
legislation only reinforces the idea that Iowa's farms have something to
hide.
PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION SO THAT IOWA GOVERNOR BRANSTAD VETOES THIS BILL!

Governor Branstad’s number is (515) 281-5211.
