The Henry E. Fetterman Performing Arts Center Dedication

The Henry E. Fetterman Performing Arts Center Dedication
The Issue
Henry E. Fetterman, also known as Hank, and "Fetts" by some of his students, passed away February 3, 1999. He was a Marple Newtown teacher since 1965, teaching Biology. In addition, Mr. Fetterman was technical and musical director of the drama department.
Mr. Fetterman touched the lives of thousands of students and faculty. He had a gift to be able to reach out to his students and empower them, both in the classroom and on the stage. He felt his students could do anything they put their minds to, and he often encouraged and helped them with their goals. Many of his students who worked with him on the stage went on to stages in New York City, Philadelphia and even working in Disney World.
At the time of his passing, several students asked the then-administration about dedicated the auditorium to Mr. Fetterman. It was suggested by the administration to hold off - as the auditorium would be going through a facelift in coming years and it might be best to dedicate after construction completed. Other than minor repairs, construction never occurred.
In past year or two, the Marple Newtown High School began undergoing extensive renovations. Included in the most recent renovations is a complete renovation of the auditorium. After approaching the current Marple Newtown School Board and explaining the dedication as discussed years ago, the board stated their stance is that no rooms are to be named or dedicated after teachers as they would receive too many requests.
This petition is for students, facility, administrators and friends of Mr. Fetterman to show our elected Marple Newtown School Board that we respectfully request the dedication of the auditorium as the "Henry E. Fetterman Performing Arts Center" upon completion of renovations. We are requesting no funding or resources, other than permission to move ahead with dedication the auditorium. If you currently live in MN, please let your school board know you support us!
Mr. Fetterman was known for not taking the spotlight. He made it clear at times that if he was requested on stage for a curtain call or recognition - he would walk out of the building. He felt his students were the ones who deserved the recognition as they did the real work. It's time for Mr. Fetterman to share in the spotlight and be recognized for the countless hours and work he spent making sure every one of his students attained their goals. It's time for one last goal for Mr. Fetterman's students as we come together to dedicate the "Henry E. Fetterman Performing Arts Center".
