1.This bill denies the freedom of choice to the public.
2.Acupuncture has been clinically proven to effectively treat pain and using it reduces the need for pain medications. The military is using it in the field and in the VA.
3.37% of PIP charges in 2010 were from Chapter 457 acupuncturists. The rest were chiropractors, MD’s and other.
4.Eliminating only Chapter 457 providers from PIP is discriminatory and unfair. There is no evidence that Chapter 457 Acupuncturists have been involved in fraud. In fact our profession has suffered a loss in income since the PIP laws changed in 2009.
5.MD’s are not required to have any training and Chiropractors are required to have 100 hours. Chapter 457 licensees are required to have 2700 hours to be a licensed acupuncturist. Acupuncture Physicians provide safe and effective treatments and should not be excluded from PIP.
