The Baucus Plan solves nothing. There is no reform for existing insurance companies. There is no public option for those in favor of Universal Health Care. The plan does nothing but tax insurance companies to create untested Not-For-Profit Health Care organizations that have no tested results. It is important for us to voice our discontent with the current plan, that alienates liberals and conservatives alike.
-There is no public option to compete with private insurance companies to lower rates and encourage better provision of services
-It seeks to raise money by taxing insurance companies, resulting in insurance companies passing along costs to middle-class families via increased premiums
-Increased premiums will result in more families being unable to afford health insurance
-The "Free Rider" provision will give companies an incentive to not hire low-income workers, decreasing the likelihood of employment for the disadvantaged lower class
-Funding cuts to Medicare Advantage, a program that allows people to receive Medicare benefits through private insurance programs, which, results in a better quality of service for the elderly
In regards to the Baucus Plan
Dear Representative,
In response to the proposed Baucus Plan, I have some serious concerns for the future of medical insurance. First, this is not Universal Health Care because not everyone is eligible for medical services. Secondly, it is not a free-market solution because individual mandate is taken out of the picture due to steep tax penalties for those who choose not to purchase a government designed minimum insurance package. Third, it seeks to fund their efforts by taxing insurance companies, who will only pass along the costs to its consumers, resulting in more middle and lower class families being unable to afford health care. Furthermore, the free rider provision will discourage employers from hiring lower-income employees.
In conclusion, there are many problems with the proposed Baucus Plan. In its current form, it does nothing to deal with our broken system, it is merely one broken system to replace another. As a member of your constituency, I ask that you vote down the Baucus Plan when the time comes to vote.
