St. Jude Educational Institute is a vital part of "The City of St. Jude" in West Montgomery.  This 40-acre site is best historically known as the final camping place for the Selma-to-Montgomery Marchers in 1965.  In the months before the commemoration of the march's 50th anniversary, we are deeply saddened by the prospect of the school's sudden closure given its vital role in civil rights history and commitment to making the world a better place to the present day. Across its 76-year history, and as part of its educational mission, this dynamic institution, with its outstanding and diverse faculty, has educated generations of youth in Montgomery and throughout the surrounding region.  In some cases, it has educated entire families across generations. St. Jude, which is rich in tradition, fosters a commitment to public and community service in its students while nourishing and reinforcing strong values.  We are signing as St. Jude supporters.  Some of us are also signing because we are actually alumni.  All of us who are signing care about St. Jude's future.  We believe that St. Jude is irreplaceable as an institution and that it needs to be there for future generations of students in the 21st century.  We want our voices and opinions about this issue to be heard.  We believe that it is important to save St. Jude.  We submit these signatures in solidarity and urge that the decison to close St. Jude be reconsidered and reversed.
